Technology
is a wonder. It can also be horror. On October 1st, I
incorrectly published data. I referred to
the wrong dataset in my computer files. The result was
re-publishing the last edition, scoring and ranking every library
the same for the 2008 edition as for the 2006 edition.
I
have now re-done things. The revised data can be found on this
website in the Ratings section and at the American Libraries
web site.
This edition, published October 2, 2008, was delayed a year by
the late release of
the 2005 federal data. The next edition using, 2006 data. should
be available in early 2009.

The 2008 HAPLR edition rates
over 9,000 public libraries in the United States using the latest federal data. Libraries are
rated, scored and ranked on 15 input and output measures. The
latest (2005) public library statistics were published by the
National
Center for Educational Statistics in July of 2007. The HAPLR
ratings receive newspaper, magazine and television coverage all over the
country. The latest
article on HAPLR is featured in American
Libraries magazine in the October 2008 issue.
